If it is a high priced Chinese tea set then surely it is made of porcelain. The place that makes the best quality porcelain tea sets in China is called Jingdezhen. If you are able to verify that it is from there then you can be sure that it is a very high quality material.
The kind of tea set that most any serious tea drinker in China would use is made of Yixing Purple Clay. Since your tea set is not purplish brown I’m sure that it is not this material. However you might want to look into this kind as they are also very nice looking and the teapot gets infused with the flavor of the teas you brew in it. Here is a link to these kinds of tea pots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yixing_clay_teapot)
